City Offices Close in Observance of Veterans Day
Most City of Abilene offices and community service centers will be closed on Friday, November 10, 2017 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday with the exception of those providing life safety services such as fire and police protection.
The Abilene Animal Shelter will be closed November 10. Citizens with an animal related emergency should contact the Abilene Police Department at 673-8331 and an Animal Services Officer will be dispatched to handle the call. The shelter will open again Saturday, November 11 and resume its normal business hours.
Solid Waste Services offices will not be open November 10 but residential and commercial collection will run their regular schedules. There will be no bulk and brush collection on November 10. The Environmental Recycling Center, the Abilene Brush Center and the Citizens Convenience Center will also be closed for the holiday.
The Municipal Court will also be closed on Friday, November 10. All citations due Friday will be due on Monday, November 13 with no penalty. To make payments any time online, visit the Municipal Court page on the City’s website.
CityLink Transit will operate on its normal schedule November 10. The Abilene Zoo will be open regular hours, 9 AM to 5 PM, with last admission being at 4 PM.
The South branch of the Abilene Public Library, located in the Mall of Abilene, will be open regular hours on Friday, November 10. The Main and Mockingbird branches of the Abilene Public Library locations will be open regular hours on Friday, November 10 but closed on Saturday, November 11.
Other City closings for November 10 include: City Hall, Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, Abilene Civic Center office, the Development Corporation of Abilene, the Abilene Regional Airport administration office and City Recreation and Senior Citizen centers.
The Water Services Center, 701 E. Hwy. 80, will be open on November 10, 8 AM to 4 PM, to take delinquent payments for customers whose water has been turned off and for new customers needing water service. For water emergencies, sewer problems and reports of water conservation ordinance violations, citizens may call the Water Services Center’s emergency hotline, 676-6000, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
