Most City Offices Closed in Observance of Thanksgiving
Most City of Abilene offices and community service centers will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday with the exception of those providing life safety services such as fire and police protection.
The Abilene Animal Shelter will be closed November 23 and 24 for the holiday. Citizens with an animal related emergency should contact the Abilene Police Department at 325-673-8331 and an Animal Services Officer will be dispatched to handle the call. The animal shelter will open again on Saturday, November 25 and resume its regular Saturday business hours from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Solid Waste Services division offices will not be open November 23 and 24. There will be no residential pickup on Thursday or Friday. There is no commercial container collection on Thursday, November 23. There will be limited commercial container collection on Friday, November 24. There will be no bulk and brush collection on November 23 or 24. The Environmental Recycling Center, the Abilene Brush Center and the Citizens Convenience Center will also be closed Thursday and Friday but will resume regular business hours on Saturday, November 25. Solid Waste Services will resume all normal operations Monday, November 27.
The Municipal Court will also be closed on November 23 and 24. All citations due November 23 and 24 will be due on Monday, November 27 with no penalty. To make payments any time online, visit the Municipal Court page on the City’s website.
The South branch of the Abilene Public Library, located in the Mall of Abilene, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and resume regular hours on Friday, November 24. The Main and Mockingbird branches of the Abilene Public Library locations will be closed Thursday - Sunday and will resume regular hours on Monday, November 27.
Other City closings for November 23 and 24 include: City Hall, Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, Abilene Convention Center office, the Development Corporation of Abilene, Airport Administration Office, and City Recreation and Senior Citizen centers.
CityLink Transit hours are as follows:

- Sunday: CityLink Closed
- Monday Normal operations will resume
The Abilene Zoo will be closed on Thanksgiving, November 23, and will resume regular hours on Friday, November 24, from 9 AM to 5 PM, with last admission being at 4 PM.
The Water Services Center, 701 E. Hwy. 80, will be open on Thanksgiving. The center will reopen on Friday, November 24 as well as on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 8 AM to 4 PM. For water emergencies, sewer problems and reports of water conservation ordinance violations, citizens may call the Water Services Center’s emergency hotline at 325-676-6000 seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
