Most City Offices to Close for Good Friday
In observance of Good Friday, most City of Abilene offices and community service centers will be closed on Friday, March 30, with the exception of those providing life safety services such as fire and police protection.
The Abilene Animal Shelter will be closed Friday. Citizens with an Animal Control emergency may call the Abilene Police Department at 673-8331 and an Animal Services Officer will be available to respond. Any animal that is picked up as a stray during the holiday will be attended to at the shelter. The Animal Shelter will re-open on Saturday, March 31 at 10:00 A.M. to resume normal business hours.
Solid Waste Services division offices will be closed Friday, March 30. Residential & commercial refuse collection will continue on schedule. There will be no brush and bulky refuse collection on Friday. Both the Abilene Brush Center (ABC) and the Environmental Recycling Center (ERC) will also be closed Friday but will resume regular business hours on Saturday. Solid Waste Services will resume all normal operations Monday.
CityLink Transit will run regular hours on March 30.
The Municipal Court will be closed on Friday. All citations due on Friday will be due on Monday, April 2 with no penalty. To make payments any time online, visit the Municipal Court page on the City’s website.
The Abilene Zoo will be open regular hours, 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., with last admission being at 4 P.M.
The Main and Mockingbird branches of the Abilene Public Library locations will be open on Friday, March 30 and closed on Saturday, March 31. The South branch of the Abilene Public Library located in the Mall of Abilene will be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday, but closed on Sunday, April 1.
Other City closings for Friday, March 30 include: City Hall, the Water Office, Health Department, Abilene Convention Center offices, the Development Corporation of Abilene, the Airport Administration Office, City Recreation and Senior Citizen Centers.The Water Services Center, 701 E. Hwy. 80, will be open 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Friday. For water emergencies, sewer problems and reports of water conservation ordinance violations, citizens may call the Water Services Center’s emergency hotline, 676-6000, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
