Post Date:04/17/2018 4:38 PM

The City of Abilene Fire Department and Abilene Independent School District are hosting a meeting for parents and students who are interested in a career as a firefighter.

For the 2018-2019 school year, AISD in partnership with the City of Abilene, TSTC and Cisco, is offering a two-year, dual-credit program for current sophomores who will be juniors beginning next school year, which will allow them to take classes towards becoming a firefighter.  Upon graduation, participants in this program will have 24 college credit hours and will have earned both a Firefighter Certification and an EMT Certification.

The meeting will take place tonight and Thursday at 6:00 PM at Fire Station #1, 250 Grape Street.  Fire Chief Larry Bell, AISD Superintendent David Young and Program Instructor Mike Miller will be on hand and available for questions and more information.
