City of Abilene Announces Director of Health Services
The City of Abilene is pleased to announce Annette Lerma has been appointed the new Director of Health Services.
Mrs. Lerma has been serving as the Interim Health Director since July. Mrs. Lerma began her tenure with the City in 2001 as a nutritionist for the Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program, and was promoted to WIC Director in 2008. She was promoted to Assistant Health Services Director in 2016. As Director of Health Services, Mrs. Lerma will oversee the programming and financial management of seventeen programs offering various medical and nutrition services, environmental health, vital statistics, public health emergency preparedness, and the MERCY Health Care Center.
Lerma is a native of Abilene. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Abilene Christian University, and a Certificate of Public Health from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She is currently completing her Masters of Public Health at the TTUHSC Abilene Campus.
“Annette has demonstrated a passion for public health and a commitment to public service. These are two areas that are essential to success in this position. I am very pleased to appoint her to this important community leadership position,” said City Manager Robert Hanna.
Lerma says she is passionate about improving community health and well-being. She will begin serving as Director of Health Services immediately.
