City of Abilene Veterans Day Closures & Operations
Most City of Abilene offices and community service centers will close Monday, November 12, 2018, in observance of Veterans Day. Those closings include City Hall, Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, Abilene Convention Center office, Abilene Animal Shelter, Development Corporation of Abilene, Abilene Regional Airport administration office, and City Recreation & Senior Citizen centers. Municipal court will close, and all citations due November 12 will be due November 13 with no penalty.
The following departments will continue some, if not all operations:
Solid Waste Services - Residential and commercial collection will run on regular schedules. No bulk and brush collection. The Environmental Recycling Center, Abilene Brush Center, and the Citizens Convenience Center will close.
CityLink Transit - Operate on a normal schedule. Veterans ride free on Veterans Day.
The Abilene Zoo - Open with regular hours and regular last admission at 4:00 p.m.
Libraries - The South branch library at the Mall of Abilene will be open with regular hours. The Main and Mockingbird branches will close.
Water & utility services - The utility billing office at 534 Cypress Street will close. The Water Services Center at 701 E. Hwy. 80 will open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to take delinquent payments for customers whose water has been turned off, or to establish new service. For water emergencies, call the Water Services Center’s emergency hotline at 676-6000.
Abilene Police and Abilene Fire will continue normal operations. For animal related emergencies, call the Abilene Police Department at 325.673.8331.
