City of Abilene drafting disaster declaration after severe weather
ABILENE, Texas – The City of Abilene is in the process of drafting a disaster declaration after severe weather moved through the area around 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
At this point in time, the majority of structural damage appears to be on the west side of the city stretching from Corsicana to Willis and Hartford/South 14th to South 1st. Other damage has been reported citywide. According to the National Weather Service, the weather we experienced is still classified as straight line wind.
At this point in time, Abilene Police and Fire have not received any reports of major injuries or fatalities due to the storm.
City utility crews are working to address damage and outages.
Residents are reminded they should consider any down power lines to be active and dangerous, to stay indoors until all weather has passed, and avoid affected areas.
