Proposition #5

Zoo Improvements

$1,030,000

All design activities for the five Abilene Zoo bond projects were completed during Phase 1. The Phase 2 construction activities will be combined into one bid to save time and money, and all will begin in 2017.

  • A new exhibit of African lesser flamingos, which will greet visitors as they enter the Zoo
  • Jaguar facility renovation and expansion, adding off-exhibit space for breeding and rearing these endangered cats
  • A new bird rehabilitation facility with much-needed room for the zoo’s efforts to protect our region’s native species
  • A new giant anteater exhibit
  • Renovations to the fishing pier to provide access for guests with disabilities
