HOMETOWN TEAMS:
HOW SPORTS SHAPE AMERICA


is a traveling Smithsonian exhibit celebrating America's love of sports and the impact they've had on society.  The Abilene Public Library, Main Branch (202 Cedar St.) will host this exhibit from Sept. 1st - Oct. 6th and all locations will offer plenty of free events that supports the sports theme.

SPORTS TALES, SHARE YOUR STORIES
Thursday, Sept. 6, 20, 27, Oct. 4 at 5:00PM | Main Library
Do you have a local sports story you'd like to share?  We're looking to preserve your sports memories, to then share with others, at one of four (4) sessions at your Main Library.

Staff will be on hand to record your stories (audio only) and you'll be more than welcome to retain a copy for yourself.  To participate, call the Information Services Desk at 325-676-6025.

AL PICKETT AUTHOR TALK ON LOCAL SPORTS HISTORY

Al Pickett & Selection
Al Pickett has been a commonplace in sports in the Big Country for more than 30 years.  He's been the sports editor of the Abilene Reporter-News, a freelance writer and sports broadcaster, and authored books about sports in Abilene and Texas.

One of those featured books is Brother's Keeper: The Story of the 2009 Abilene High State Championship, which is set to be turned into a feature film starring Laurence Fishburne and Milo Gibson.

If you're a fan of high school football  then be sure to join us for a special event on sports history at your library.  It's free for the community to attend.
