 Aikido class abilene texas

Aikido @ Cobb Recreation Center - $33 per month

Come to Cobb Recreation Center on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to learn the art of Aikido! Aikido is a defensive martial arts, and students will learn to blend with an attack to re-direct the force, use throws and joint locking techniques to neutralize an attacker. Class starts on the 1st Tuesday of each month.

It's $33 per month, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Cobb Recreation Center. Register at abilenetx.gov/signup!

Basic Manners | Dog Obedience Class

In this class, your dog will learn basic manners: Settle, sit, down, heeling, recalls, stays, touch, place, and manners when meeting others. You will learn how to build a relationship with your dog that will keep him eager to work with you!

This class is designed for dogs aged 6 months and up. For your dog’s safety, they must have completed all of their shots prior to the first class. You will need to bring proof of shots DHLPP + Rabies (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza) with you to the first class.

Maximum of 10 dogs per class, $65 per dog. Classes start on Tuesday, September 17 from 6:30-7:30pm at Cobb Recreation Center and go for 6 weeks until October 22. Register online at www.abilenetx.gov/signup!

 Advanced Dog Obedience Sept to Oct

Advanced Manners | Dog Obedience Class

 In order to sign up for this class, you must have already participated in the Basic Manners class.

This class is designed for dogs aged 6 months and up. For your dog’s safety, they must have completed all of their shots prior to the first class. You will need to bring proof of shots DHLPP + Rabies (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza) with you to the first class.

This class is designed to build on the skills you’ve already learned in the Basic Manners class: settle, sit, down, heeling, recalls, stays, touch, place, and manners when meeting others. You will also develop the skills necessary to pass the Canine Good Citizenship (AKC’s CGC Test) which requires meeting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, allowing someone to groom or examine the dog, walking on a loose lead, walking through a crowd, sit, down, and stay on command, recalls, polite around other dogs, reaction to distractions, and supervised separation.

 Puppy Class Sept to Oct

Puppy Obedience Class

This class is for puppies aged 4 months to 6 months. For your puppy’s safety, they must have completed all of their puppy shots prior to the first class. The only exception is rabies prior to 6 months of age (as some veterinarians will not administer the rabies vaccine until 6 months). You will need to bring proof of shots DHLPP + Rabies (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza) with you to the first class.

This class is designed to get you off on the right foot with your new puppy! In this six week session, you will learn how to effectively communicate with your new puppy. You will learn positive ways to create desired behaviors. Your puppy will learn new skills: settle, sit, down, touch, come, off, leash walking, and manners when meeting others.

You will learn how to create an environment where your puppy can thrive and enjoy working with you!

Maximum of 10 dogs per class, $65 per dog. Classes start on Thursday, September 19 from 6:30-7:30pm at Cobb Recreation Center and go for 6 weeks until October 24. Register online at www.abilenetx.gov/signup!

 Dog Scent Class Sept to Oct

Scent Work Class for Dogs

Want to have fun with your dog and watch him develop his natural ability to detect scent? This class is perfect for any dog 6 months and older. For your dog’s safety, they must have completed all of their shots prior to the first class. You will need to bring proof of shots DHLPP + Rabies (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza) with you to the first class.

In this class, you will learn:
• Search/reward game
• Proper reward timing
• Beginning and ending protocol
• Open box searches
• Introduce harness work
• Area searches
• Interior room searches
• Threshold hides
• Introduce elevated hides

• No prior training is required
• Shy or fearful dogs build confidence
• Perfect for all ages and breeds
• Build a stronger bond between you and your dog!

Country Western Dance Classes

It's time to two-step on over to our country western dancing classes! This class teaches you how to Texas Two-Step, Waltz, Polka, Schottische, Cotton-Eyed Joe and more. All skill levels are welcome to join in our class, everyone will learn something!

Classes will be held at two separate locations. On Mondays, classes will be held at Cobb Recreation Center from 6:30-8:00pm starting September 23, continuing for 7 weeks. On Thursdays, dance classes will be held at Adaptive Recreation Services from 6:30-8:00pm starting on October 3, continuing for 7 weeks. It's $45 per couple or $33 per individual, and you can register online at www.abilenetx.gov/signup!
