Stories at the Garden | Saturday, August 24 at 10:00am
FREE EVENT: Everyone is invited to enjoy "Stories at the Garden" presented by your Abilene Public Library, City of Abilene Parks and Recreation, and the Abilene Zoo. We've all come together to bring you a fantastic event with an entire line-up of great activities and featuring some very special guests, all for FREE!
Join us at Nelson Park Festival Gardens, located next to the Abilene Zoo, from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, August 24.
Activities will include a Storytime at 10:45AM; Princess and Superhero Meet & Greets; The Hardin Simmons Six White Horses Meet & Rides; May Farms Petting Animals area, Bounce Houses, Bubbles, Chalk Drawings, Crafts.
Attendees will receive a stamp which grants one free child entry to the Zoo with one paying adult. Concessions will also be available for purchase.
There will be so much to do and experience that you won't want to miss it. Bring the whole family to this spectacular event. Then, keep the fun going by staying to visit the Zoo and playing at Fort Imagination. Let's send summer off right, and get ready for a great new school year. We'll see you at the Festival Gardens!

Senior Talent Show | Saturday, August 31 at 2:00pm
Come out and see our talented seniors of Abilene, Texas performing on stage at the Abilene Convention Center! The show will happen Saturday, August 31, starting at 2pm, and doors open at 1pm. Tickets are $5 each and can be bought at Rose Park Senior Activity Center or at the door the day of the show!
Haunted Half Marathon | Saturday, October 12 at 8:00am
Join us for our Haunted Half Marathon October 12th at 8:00am! The race starts at Elmdale Baptist Church, 233 Elmdale Road S., and the race will run down Elmdale to Potosi Road, down Bronco Road and then back the same way. Prizes will be awarded to individuals in different age divisions, along with prizes for runners who participate in our costume contest! Registration opens September 1, and it'll be $35 per person. Fall Mayor's Hike | Saturday, October 19 at 9:00am
Take an adventurous hike with Mayor Anthony Williams for our 2019 Fall Mayor's Hike! This 3 mile hike along Cedar Creek will take place Saturday, October 19, beginning at 9:00 A.M. This is a FREE, family friendly event that is open to the public, and leashed dogs are welcome to join as well! Due to the terrain of the trail, strollers and bikes are not allowed. The hike will begin in the grassy area on 100 block of E.S. 11th Street, adjacent to the intersection of Maple and South 11th. Participants will travel north along the bank of Cedar Creek to Stevenson Park then return by the same trail. Parking will be available on South 11th street and signage will direct hikers to the designated parking area.
Some recommendations to ensure a fun-filled and safe hike:
Bring water and sunscreen along
Wear comfortable shoes; no flip flops or sandals
Dress for the weather; wear long pants, bring a jacket and a hat

Fall Festival | Saturday, October 26 at 6:00pm
Get ready for a fun, spooky evening at our Fall Festival October 26! Come in your Halloween costumes to GV Daniels, located at North 8th Street and Treadaway. There will be a car show at 3pm, and trunk or treat starting at 6pm, along with fun and games happening from 6pm-9pm. We'll also have our haunted house open at 6:30, something you don't want to miss out on! This is FREE fun for the whole family, so come by and join us for a spooky celebration Saturday, October 26!
