Ballroom Dancing - Friday, February 22 at 7:00pm
Join us for a grand evening of ballroom dancing! We will have a mix of dances, such as the foxtrot, waltz, tango, and more. The dance will be held at Sears Recreation Center Friday, February 22, from 7:00pm-9:00pm. It's $5 per person at the door.
Krewe of Barkus Mardi Gras Dog Parade -Saturday, March 2 at 11:00am
Celebrate Mardi Gras with your four-legged friends! Join us for the Krewe of Barkus Mardi Gras dog parade on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00 A.M. The festivities include a dog parade around Camp Barkley. Dogs prizes will be awarded for most creative costume, most gold, most green, most purple, and a king and queen will be announced. Steam-n-Wheel Bike Race 2019 - Saturday, March 16 at 10:00am
Join us for the 26th annual Steam-N-Wheels Bike Race where riders can choose from three course routes to choose from: 12, 32, and 48 miles. The first 150 riders that register will receive a complimentary long sleeve event t-shirt. Day of registration will begin at 8am until 9:30am, with the fee increasing to $45/ per rider. Packet pickup will be available on race day beginning at 8am. Register at www.abilenetx.gov/signup.
Mayor's Spring Hike - Saturday, March 30 at 9:00am
Take an adventurous hike with Mayor Anthony Williams for the 2019 Mayor’s Spring Hike! This 3 mile hike along Cedar Creek will take place Saturday, March 30th beginning at 9:00 A.M. This is a FREE, family friendly event that is open to the public and leashed dogs are welcome to join. Due to the terrain of the trail, strollers and bikes are not allowed. The hike will begin in the grassy area on 100 block of E.S. 11th Street, adjacent to the intersection of Maple and South 11th. Participants will travel north along the bank of Cedar Creek to Stevenson Park then return by the same trail. Parking will be available on South 11th street and signage will direct hikers to the designated parking area.
Some recommendations to ensure a fun-filled and safe hike:
Bring water and sunscreen along
Wear comfortable shoes; no flip flops or sandals
Dress for the weather; wear long pants, bring a jacket and a hat

Abilene Outdoor Adventure - Saturday, June 1 at 9:00am
Mark your calendars for June 1st, because you won't want to miss Abilene Outdoor Adventures!
For the past four years we have partnered with many different organizations, including Texas Parks & Wildlife and Keep Abilene Beautiful, to bring this educational, fun, and family friendly event to the Big Country! It's completely free, and there will be a lot of fun activities to learn more about outdoor recreation, conservation/preservation, and wellness. Here are just a few of these activities: catfish fishing derby, archery, geocaching, camping simulations, and kayaking demos!
The event will be held at Nelson Park on Saturday, June 1st, form 9:00am to 3:00pm. We can't wait to see you there!
