Fire Chief Larry Bell
Larry Bell became the City of Abilene’s Fire Chief on January 5, 2016. Chief Bell leads the activities of the Fire Department including emergency services, support services and administration. He has served the Abilene Fire Department for 33 years. Chief Bell holds a Master Degree in Organizational and Human Resource Development from Abilene Christian University and has completed the Executive Fire Officer Certification through the National Fire Academy and Certified Public Manager through Texas State University.
Deputy Chief Cande Flores
Deputy Chief Flores leads the Abilene Fire Department’s Support Services Division. This includes procurement and maintenance of the department’s facilities, apparatus, supplies and equipment. Chief Flores also manages Fire Prevention, Organizational Development, and Data Management personnel. He has over 20 years of experience in the fire service.
Deputy Chief Mike Burden
Deputy Chief Mike Burden began his career with the Abilene Fire Department in 1991. He is a graduate of Abilene High School and has over 25 years of experience in the fire service. Chief Burden has worked his way up from rookie firefighter to his current position as Deputy Chief. He has earned an Associate’s Degree in Fire Technology from Cisco College and holds many fire certifications. He is a strong believer in hard work, and strives to make the Abilene Fire Department a better place for future generations. Chief Burden oversees our Emergency Services Division.
