Fixed-route bus service is CityLink's core service. In this service, ADA compliant transit buses are operated over an established route structure on a fixed schedule. There are 19 routes (12 weekday and 7 Saturday routes) on the CityLink route system. These routes are arranged on a ‘pulse’ system, meaning all but one route (Route 30 – Crosstown Ambler) departs and arrives from the Downtown Transfer Station at 1189 S. 2nd Street. To facilitate route transfers, all routes depart the station at 15 minutes after the hour, 45 minutes after the hour, or at the top of the hour.

  • Since bicycles are not permitted inside buses, all CityLink buses come equipped with bicycle racks. These racks enable bicyclists who utilize the fixed route system to secure their bicycle until they reach their destination. No fare, special permit, or advance reservation is required. For safety reasons, the operator will not leave the bus to assist you with the loading or unloading of bicycles. Bicycle racks can only carry two bikes at a time and are available on a first come, first serve basis. If you choose to bring your bicycle with you and the rack is occupied, you will have to wait for the next bus with available space on the bike rack. Recumbent bikes, tandem bikes, and three-wheeled bikes are not allowed because they do not fit safely into the racks.

    When Boarding: 
    To allow for faster accessibility, before the bus arrives at the stop, please remove any loose objects or personal items that could fall off your bike or obstruct the operator’s view such as water bottles, baskets, etc.

    When Exiting: 
    Be sure to exit the front door and let the operator know you are going to be removing your bicycle from the rack. Raise the rack after removing your bicycle when no other bike is present.

    CityLink Transit assumes no liability for injuries or damages incurred to bicycles, personal property or persons while using the racks or riding the bus.

  • Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes early. Designated stops are identified by CityLink bus stop signs. These are the boarding points, as the placement of the bus stops are based on route timing and the safety of the location. 

    Make sure the vehicle comes to a complete stop and allow exiting passengers to leave the bus. 

    Before boarding the bus, it is important to identify the route number and name to ensure it is going to the proper destination. The destination sign is located above the windshield of the bus and to the left of the front door. If in doubt, ask the driver. 

    Have your pass or the exact change for your fare ready before the bus arrives. Deposit the exact change in the farebox or swipe your pass before you take a seat. Bus drivers do not carry change. If you do not have correct change, you will need to deposit your dollar bill in the dollar slot of the farebox. 

    Ask the driver for a transfer if your destination requires you to ride more than one bus. This transfer is valid for up to one hour after the driver issues it. Give the transfer to the driver of the second bus you board. 

    When the bus is approximately a block away from your stop, pull the signal cord located above the window or verbally inform the driver. Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. 

    Once you exit the bus, it is recommended you wait until the bus has completely pulled away before attempting to cross the street. Do not attempt to cross in front of or behind a standing vehicle.

  • All CityLink buses are accessible to persons with disabilities, including those in wheelchairs, three-wheeled scooters and other similar mobility devices.

    CityLink drivers announce stops at major transfer points, major intersections, major destination locations, and any other stop along the route as requested by passengers. Requests for a specific location to be announced by the driver should be made when boarding the bus.

    CityLink drivers will provide assistance to passengers in transferring from one bus to another in the CityLink Station. If such assistance is needed, passengers should notify the driver when boarding the bus.

    CityLink can provide assistance to persons with a disability who may have difficulty identifying the correct bus at a location where more than one bus will be passing. If such assistance is needed, may call the CityLink office prior to the trip and inform the Information Teller or Dispatcher of the boarding location and the desired bus. The driver of the bus will be alerted to the passenger's needs.

    CityLink has a teletypewriter (TTY) for communicating with persons with hearing impairments. There must be a TTY machine at the phone from which one is calling in order to access the CityLink TTY machine. The phone number for the TTY is 1-800-736-2989.
