Accomplishments for 2023

Staffing Update

  • Approved an additional Lieutenant position to provide support with administrative duties. This position oversees the Training Division, Narcotics, the Surveillance, Apprehension, and Tactics Team.
  • After working shorthanded throughout the year in various divisions (Patrol, Communications, Administration, Investigations), the Department is anticipating an increase in staffing in 2024 due to successful recruiting efforts at 25 events in 2023.

Real-Time Information Center (RTIC)

  • Acquired a 128TB server for streaming traffic cameras citywide.
  • Created a new full-time position resulting in arrests through investigative follow-up on video feeds. Also conducted more than 300 case follow-ups with this position.

Traffic Safety Achievements

  • Decrease in fatal accidents from 23 in 2022 to 7 in 2023. A decrease of 70%

Cold Case Success

  • Collaborated with the television program Cold Justice to obtain an arrest warrant for a 41-year-old cold case involving a double homicide.

Homicide Investigations

  • Crimes Against Persons Unit successfully solved six homicides in 2023, leading to arrests. This is a 100% clearance rate.

Forensics Unit Update

  • Acquired a new Alternative Light Source for investigative purposes.

Community Engagement

  • Continued community involvement through events like National Night Out, Trunk or Treat, Operation Blue Santa, Late Night Basketball, Junior Citizens Police Academy, and the traditional Citizens Police Academy.

Equipment and Technology Upgrades

  • Secured grant funding for ballistic shields for all marked police vehicles.
  • Equipped all vehicles with manual breaching tools and shotgun breaching rounds.
  • Transitioned to Taser 7.
