Solid Waste & Recycling

Solid Waste & Recycling is responsible for administering a comprehensive waste management system for the City of Abilene.

Solid Waste manages curb and alley service for Residential and Brush & Bulky Pickup, as well as Commercial Pickup, and Roll-Off Services.

Under authority of the Texas Health and Safety Code 364.034 and City of Abilene Ordinance, Section 27-11, the City of Abilene, Solid Waste Services Division, is the only trash collection agency authorized to collect solid waste (trash) within the Abilene city limits. Short term construction debris is the only exception to this code.

  • Use the Barrel Closest to Your Property: Even if it's across the alley
  • Be Considerate of Your Neighbors: If 4 share a barrel, only 1/4 is for your household
  • Keep the Barrel Clean: This eliminates odors and bugs
  • Bag Loose Paper and Trash: Remember bagged trash stops litter
  • Make Sure Coals are Cold: Hot coals will melt or burn containers
  • Leave Grass Clippings on the Lawn: If you bag them, do not overstuff the container
  • Move Bulk Items Away from Barrel: Leave at least 5 feet of space around the barrel
  • Call Solid Waste: If your container requires repairs, call (325) 676-6053
  • Don't Turn Your Barrel: If it is not facing the alley, it will not empty properly
  • Don't  Overload the Barrel: Do not fill with cement blocks, construction debris, etc.
  • Don't  Put Tree Limbs in Container: Cut them into 4' lengths for bulky pickup, or bring to 2149 Sandy Street
  • Don't  Put Bulk Items in the Barrel: This includes construction materials, toilets, furniture, etc.
