The 2015 bond package improvements for the Abilene Convention Center were completed in August 2016, and have transformed the facility into a modern, versatile venue, that will accommodate a wide range of events. A new lighting system provides the exhibit hall a lively ambiance as well as greater energy efficiency. The computerized system can create thousands of different colors, and the new LED lights last more than six times longer than the previous fluorescent bulbs. The exhibit hall renovations also replaced the sound system and rehabilitated the walls, floors, and kitchen.
The renovations also equipped the auditorium with an automated fly system to move curtains, lights, and theater set pieces. The previous 50-ton counterweight fly system was nearly 45 years old, and was manually operated.
