Sun Celebration & Eclipse Viewing
Saturday, October 14, 2023
Youth are invited out for a special out of this world storytime event that will feature a fun craft and going outside to view the eclipse.
Join your South Branch library for a Sun Celebration and Eclipse Viewing, weather permitting of course. We’ll be offering the community the chance to learn about and view the Annular Eclipse on this day, as Abilene will be in the path of partial totality - around 80-85% - and should have a great view of this celestial phenomena. Each library branch has received a limited number of eclipse viewing glasses, which will be offered for free to patrons on a first-come, first-served basis. Keep the glasses, or turn them back to the library for reuse during the next Total Eclipse. However, your South Branch will be the place to visit to get the chance to become Citizen Scientists while learning more about our solar system. The Annular Eclipse will begin at 10:30AM, with the Maximum Eclipse occurring at 11:48AM, finishing at 1:25PM. Join us for an Out of This World Storytime at 11:00AM and learn about the sun, moon, and stars. Then we’ll make a glasses holder to keep our viewers in until the next eclipse in April. Finally, if the weather permits, we’ll go outside to view the eclipse.
