[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire: 2800 Block of S. 38th Street

On August 11, 2021 at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire located in the 2800 block of S 38th Street. The first arriving units found heavy smoke and flames showing from the back side of the residential structure. Crews were able to access the fire from the alleyway and were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire. One occupant was home and was unaware of the fire. A passerby who observed the fire was able to notify the occupant of the incident and assist him with evacuating the structure without injury. Fire investigation revealed the fire began on the exterior of the structure and then penetrated into the attic space. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and damages are estimated to be approximately $10,000.
