For regular viewers of the City of Abilene’s government channel, you may have noticed content airing from your library ending up on TV. Such includes our popular Crafty Creations shows for youth and original programming hosted at your library and for all ages. What you might not know is your library now has the ability to shoot live video, aired directly to TV Channel 2. Managed by library staff, this tool is being used to air select programming hosted at your library, primarily city meetings and functions.
Did you know your library also produces its own live show for kids and parents? Having started in August, this limited series is known as Stories & More where your children’s departments from all branch locations come together to share popular stories, songs, fingerplays, crafts, and more in a program that runs 30-40 minutes. Even better, there are no commercial breaks, but we will have pre-filmed segments that will serve as announcements about library services to help break up the segments.
Stories & More airs live on TV Channel 2 on the 2nd and 4th Monday afternoons of each month at 3:30PM. We invite you to tune in to an episode and see what we have to offer. Geared especially for families, this is a great way to introduce you to children’s staff, as well as to see the types of activities that go on at storytimes and other youth programming.
Usually we don’t have the ability to share the reading of stories on film due to copyright issues, but due to COVID-19, there are publishers that have graciously allowed library staff to read their books in live showings for a limited time. We’re pleased to have the opportunity to connect with your family at home, and we hope you’ll be able to watch our shows and engage in the activities we offer.
Remember, find us on TV Channel 2 on the 2nd & 4th Mondays at 3:30PM to catch our live Stories & More shows. You may also visit our YouTube Page to see a wide range of videos we’ve released throughout the years including craft shows for different ages, adult programming, youth programming, highlights on services at your library, and much more. At your Abilene Public Library, we pride ourselves on using technology to help connect us with the community at large. Come check us out!
