On December 12, at approximately 1:00 am, the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 1800 block of Sewell Street. Crews arrived to find the front of the structure heavily involved in fire. Crews quickly brought the fire under control but heavy fire and water damage resulted. The resident was home at the time but was able to evacuate the structure. The resident was taken to the hospital by ambulance as a precaution. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the estimated damage is $40,000.
