On December 13, 2021, at approximately 12:28 P.M., the Abilene Fire Department responded to a wildland fire in the 800 block of Comanche Trail. Upon arrival crews found a grass fire had burned approximately 30 acres and was continuing to grow. Additional personnel and equipment was requested early on. Crews from Hawley Volunteer fire department and the Abilene Fire department worked in tandem to extinguish the fire. The Texas Forest Service assisted with personnel and heavy equipment in order to contain the fire. No structures were in immediate danger of the fire, approximately 200 acres were burned. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
