ABILENE, TX – Police have arrested 45-year-old Sheldon Lee Bramblett of Abilene and charged him with 3rd Degree Felony Injury to a Child.
On February 14, at approximately 7:30 a.m., officers of the Abilene Police Department were contacted by a bus driver with the Abilene Independent School District who reported an incident he witnessed at South 16th and Butternut Streets. The bus driver was traveling north on Butternut when he observed a middle school-aged female walking near the intersection when an older male carrying a shopping bag began following her. He did not appear to be with the girl and was attempting to talk to the girl.
The driver, out of concern for the child, decided to turn around. He circled the block, and as he approached the intersection, he observed the male standing next to the girl. When the adult male noticed the bus approaching he began walking in the other direction.
The bus driver contacted the girl and she reported the male offered her a vape smoking device. When she declined the male grabbed her hand and refused to release it. She alleges the male attempted to coax her into a nearby vacant house and as he pulled her arm it caused her pain.
Officers were able to locate the adult male suspect within minutes. He was taken into custody later that same evening on a Violation of Parole Warrant.
The Abilene Police Department commends the bus driver for his actions. His alertness and concern for the young victim likely prevented a bad situation from turning worse.
