[ARCHIVED] Bird Scooter Rider Suffers Injuries in Vehicle Crash

ABILENE, TX – On Sunday, June 19, 2022, at approximately 10:19 p.m., the Abilene Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle collision in the 900 block of Grape St. Responding officers determined that the collision involved a Ram 3500 pickup and an operator of a Bird scooter.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the Ram pickup was northbound on Grape, in the inside lane, while multiple individuals operating Bird scooters were also northbound in the outside lane. One operator of a Bird scooter turned left into the path of the Ram pickup causing the collision.

The Ram pickup was operated by a 19-year-old male of Hawley, and the Bird scooter was operated by a 17-year-old male, of Abilene. The Bird scooter operator was transported to Hendrick Medical Center North by Metro Care. He is currently in stable condition.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision. However, it is still an active investigation being conducted by members of the Abilene Police Department's Traffic Division.
