Stormwater drainage improvements to affect traffic flow in Chimney Rock area

Button willow and chimney rock traffic changes during drainage improvement work

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has notified City of Abilene Public Works of plans to temporarily close and detour some City of Abilene streets in order to complete a project that will improve stormwater drainage in the Chimney Rock area.

Beginning the week of August 1, Button Willow Parkway will be closed at Chimney Rock Road while crews install drainage infrastructure designed to better carry standing water from the Chimney Rock and Buffalo Gap Road area into Button Willow Creek.

During this time, TxDOT warns traffic flow along Chimney Rock Road will also be modified.

Traffic modifications will continue to be made throughout the project, which is expected to take several weeks. TxDOT reports Button Willow Parkway will be closed at the intersection of Chimney Rock Road throughout the entire project.

While questions and concerns about this TxDOT project should be directed to TxDOT (325.690.9260), City of Abilene Public Works personnel are happy to answer possible questions at 325.676.6281.
