[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire: 4400 Block of Sierra Sunset

Structure Fire - Abilene Fire Department News

On July 29, 2022 at approximately 3:13 p.m. the Abilene Fire Department responded to a two-story residential structure fire located on the 4400 Block of Sierra Sunset. Residents stated they heard a lightning strike and in checking their home for damage they discovered a fire in the attic. They then called 911 and evacuated the home. AFD arrived to find smoke coming from the attic vents. The fire was able to be contained to the attic space. Investigation revealed that the fire was in fact caused by a lightning strike to a roof turbine vent which ignited the roof structure below. Damages are estimated at $50,000.
