On Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at approximately 14:00 pm, crews with the Abilene Fire Department responded to the 1000 block of Chestnut Street in reference to a residential structure fire. On arrival, crews noted heavy smoke coming from the front of the residence. Upon entry, crews noted a fire in the living room of the residence. A quick attack was made on the fire limiting the spread of the fire and containing the fire to the living room. An investigation was conducted and revealed that the fire was intentionally set by the occupant of the home. The incident was determined to be incendiary in nature and the fire caused approximately $5,000 in damage. The involved party was taken into custody and was transported to the Taylor County Jail.
