Your Abilene Public Library is set to celebrate the world of miniatures in a full-day event for all ages. Join your Main Library on Saturday, January 28 where we’ll offer something for you to watch, participate in, learn about, compete in, and more. Organized by Randall Minnick, who works in youth services, this event will be great for anyone regardless of their exposure to the world of minis.
Miniatures and figurines are valued items used in role playing and tabletop games and there are plenty of gamers who invest in purchasing and designing their miniatures, as well as building models for them to interact on. Once utilized for wargaming to learn strategy and military actions, by the 1960s and 70s, a new trend emerged in which minis began to be used as tools for role-playing games, including fantasy wargaming (which became its own distinct form of wargaming too).
At our celebration, we’ll introduce you to the world of minis through gaming, art, design, model building, and more. Such activities will include:
- Warhammer Gaming: a popular tabletop war game using miniatures to represent warriors engaging in battle across a playing field.
- Dungeons & Dragons Gaming: one of the most popular roleplaying game with miniatures that debuted in 1974 where players could create their own characters and embark on adventures in a fantasy setting.
- Tabletop Gaming: various tabletop games will be available for you to try…and we’re hoping there will be plenty that you will discover yourself for the first time.
- Big Minis Contest: Anyone can register to participate in this contest under three different categories including Group, Kit, and Freeform. There will even be a fan favorites category called the Model Citizen Award too! Learn more about them on our website.
- And More!!!
We’ll be giving out door prizes throughout the day as well. So whether you’re just discovering the world of miniatures, or are a seasoned gamer in this area, all are welcome to attend this event of firsts at your library.
