Abilene, Texas – On Monday, January 23, 2023, just after 4 p.m. Police were called from the Abilene ISD stating that one of their bus drivers who was taking kids home from school on their normal route, was reportedly hit by some type of projectile.
The bus was taking about 25 children home from school, in the 200 block of the Arnold Blvd. area when the driver says the bus was hit by some sort of projectile, possibly from an air gun. Around 25 children were on the bus at the time of the incident and heading home from school. The children notified the driver that at least one student was hit by the glass and was injured, but received minor injuries only.
The driver stopped near the normal bus stop and the children were let off and reunited with family. Two juveniles in the area were questioned about the incident.
The Department is working with the school district to ensure the safety of students and believes this was an isolated incident. The damage appears to have been done by a BB gun type of an air gun.
