On Monday, May 1st at approximately 4:45 P.M. the Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Buffalo Gap Road. Fire crews arrived to find light smoke coming from the doorway of the involved apartment unit. A small fire was located in the ceiling of the upstairs bathroom. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the bathroom area. Three occupants were home when the incident occurred and were alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors. They were able to evacuate without injury. Fire investigation revealed the source of the fire was a ceiling mounted A/C unit that had malfunctioned. The fire damage is estimated at $5,000.
