On Sunday, May 7th at approximately 10:40 A.M. the Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a single family residential structure located in the 5300 block of Hunters Circle. The 911 caller noticed what appeared to be smoke coming from a rooftop vent. Fire crews arrived on scene to find smoke inside the residence. They made entry into the structure and found a fire located in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished. There were no occupants home at the time of the fire incident. The occupant was located and arrived on scene during the incident. Fire investigation revealed the source of the fire was a stovetop burner that was left on causing items on the stovetop to ignite. The fire is classified as accidental, with damages estimated at $5,000.
