ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department is working in conjunction with the Abilene Fire Department, and the City of Abilene in preparation for the upcoming Fourth of July Holiday. The city wants to warn citizens of the extreme fire danger that exists. Setting off fireworks is irresponsible and dangerous.
We want to remind citizens that discharging fireworks in the city limits is prohibited and punishable with a Class C citation, and up to a $500 fine.
The department will institute a Firework Hotline where citizens can report fireworks being set off in the City limits - citizens are urged to call 676-6598 to make a report. This will help keep the 9-1-1 line open for emergency calls. The hotline will be operational beginning Sunday, July 2, at 4 p.m. each evening through Tuesday, July 4.
Respectfully,
