Families are encouraged to visit your library on Saturday, December 16, as we host a series of great family-friendly events that will certainly get you ready for Christmas. Four exciting events will be hosted throughout the day, all of which are available to attend for free. Below is a listing of the activities planned, hosted on a Saturday to make them accessible to the majority of the community.
Stories with Santa at 10:00AM | South Branch
- Come out to enjoy hot cocoa, stories, and fun crafts at this special event where Santa Claus will be making an appearance too. Come celebrate the holidays in this interactive storytime where you can even have your Christmas list written up to put in the mail while Santa is there. Photo opportunities will be available on a limited basis, because after the program, he’ll need to head to his other spot in the mall to visit with kiddos in the mall.
South STEAM: Beaded Snowflakes at 10:00AM | South Branch
- Offered throughout the day, youth can engage in a fun STEAM activity where we’ll provide you with the materials needed to have you fashion your own snowflake using beads. This is a come-and-go activity available throughout the day, and perfect for doing after you attend the Stories with Santa event.
Gingerbread Houses Workshop at 3:00PM | Mockingbird Branch
- Everyone is invited to the library to engage in a time-honored activity during the holidays, building your own gingerbread house. Built from graham crackers or gingerbread, along with candies and icing, come express your creativity and building skills by constructing your own edible house for the holidays. We’ll supply all the materials to make your own house, so don’t miss out on this interactive holiday workshop.
Holiday Stuffie Sleepover at 4:00PM | South Branch
- Don’t miss your chance to participate in the second Stuffie Sleepover event at your South Branch Library this afternoon, but with a holiday twist. Ids can bring in their favorite stuffed animal to engage in a holiday-themed storytime and craft. Then leave your stuffed pal with the library overnight where they’ll be able to roast marshmallows, make smores, sing songs, drink cocoa, and read stories all night long. You can then pick up your special friend the following Sunday afternoon and we’ll post pictures of the fun your stuffed animals had overnight on our Facebook page. It was a HUGE hit when we did it in August, so come experience the fun all over again with this holiday sleepover activity.
