[ARCHIVED] APD Assists in Search for Dyess Airman

ABILENE, TX – On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at 3:38 pm, Abilene Police responded to an assist-agency call at Dyess AFB at a home located on Virginia Street. Security Forces along with other Dyess personnel were interacting with a service member regarding a personnel matter. During the course of the interaction outside of his residence, the service member assaulted other members of the Air Force and retreated inside his residence.

The male suspect was armed with at least one weapon and had barricaded himself inside the home. Abilene Police were called to the scene to assist.  The suspect kicked out a window of his home and fled on foot.  He scaled the southernmost Dyess fence, running into a heavily wooded area.

Numerous law enforcement agencies assisted in trying to locate him.  A Department of Public Safety helicopter crew was dispatched out of Lubbock and arrived on scene within 90 minutes to assist.  The suspect, however, was not located in the difficult and wooded terrain. The investigation is ongoing. This member may pose a continued threat to Dyess AFB personnel, so they are responding accordingly.  This investigation continues.
