Mayor's Hike, Trout fishing, and Winter Break Camp top Parks & Rec fall activities

Fall events and activities for parks and recreation

My Abilene Parks and Recreation would like to invite the public to take part in events and activities planned for this fall, including the return of Winter Break Camp December 21st - 31st (excluding December 24th and 25th). Details and registration information below, with more information available at

Fall Mayor’s Hike: Join Mayor Anthony Williams for a hike along Cedar Creek Waterway

  • Saturday, December 5th starting at 9 a.m.

  • Free family-friendly event

  • Parking and starting point at 100 block of E.S. 11th. Hike moves up Cedar Creek Waterway to Stevenson Park and back.

Gotta Catch a Trout! See what you can catch at Cal Young Park and enter to win in contest categories of longest trout, biggest ‘other’ fish, and most days fished. 

  • December 5 - 15th with contest winners announced December 16th

  • Free family-friendly event

  • Age groups: 8 & under with adult, 9-12 with adult, 13-16 with adult, and 17 & older

Cobb Winterland Express Winter Break Camp: A fun, safe program to keep the kids active and entertained over the winter break holiday.

  • December 21st - 23rd, & 28th - 31st (no camp December 24th & 25th)

  • 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Cobb Recreation Center

  • Kids age 6 - 13

  • $50 per child

  • Registration opens November 1st at
