On October 24, 2020 at approximately 11:40 a.m. the Abilene Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire located in the 1000 block of China St. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from an air vent located on the roof as well as a 1st floor doorway. Employees on scene stated that a fire occurred in a cooling hopper in the basement and extended through an air duct. Access was made to the air duct and fire crews were able to extinguish the fire. Fire damage was contained to the air duct and hopper. Fire investigation revealed the origin of the fire was accidental due to mechanical malfunction. Damage is estimated at $20,000.
