On November 12, 2020 at approximately 2:05 a.m., the Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire located in the 500 block of Grape Street. Fire crews arrived to find an abandoned commercial structure with an exterior fire as well as smoke coming from the attic area. Fire crews quickly extinguished the exterior fire and then checked the structure for fire impingement. The fire had begun to extend through the eave of the structure, causing heat and smoke damage to the attic area. Fire investigation revealed the fire began on the exterior in an apparent homeless camping area. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is currently under investigation. Property damage is estimated at $10,000.
