2020 may have been a year many of us would rather forget, it did provide many of us with the opportunity to get healthy, learn a new skill, pick up a hobby, invest in DIY projects at home, and more. Well, we may not have all capitalized on this, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn something new in this new year.
Your Abilene Public Library subscribes to a number of respected online databases available to all library cardholders. Each month we highlight a different resource of interest to the public, and this month we want to introduce you to Pronunciator. With the help of this database, you can do something many of us would love to do...acquire a second language, or at the very least, develop some basic speaking and listening skills in a secondary language.

Pronunciator is an amazing resource where all one needs to do is select the language you currently speak, choose a language you’d wish to learn, and get started. With over 70 languages to choose from, you should be able to find a language that “speaks” to you. You’ll then be provided with thousands of lessons and millions of tools to help you along the way.
Getting started is easy as it’s presented in a streamlined and easy-to-follow user interface. First you will need to register with the site, which is free. You’ll need an email address and your library card, then you’ll be provided with a Student Name and Password. You’ll use this to save your work, track your progress, and prevent yourself from having to start from scratch.
Regardless of which language you choose, you’ll be provided with various levels of language learning with exercises covering core vocabulary, essential verbs, simple sentences, phrases for tourists and travelers, and conversation. Each of these will be enhanced through the use of a number of learning methods including text, videos, and audio. It’s truly a language lab to help you take the first steps towards becoming bilingual, or even a polyglot if you’re ambitious enough.
We invite you to check out this great database, Pronuncuiator, available for free to all library cardholders 24/7. If you need any assistance, feel free to reach out to us.
