Update 01-28-21: The hours of this program has changed with sessions being offered Wednesdays through Fridays from 9AM to 3PM, Saturdays from 9AM to 12:30PM.
There aren't too many people around that jump at the opportunity to filing their taxes each year. If you find yourself needing help, the Free Tax Help program will be hosted at your Abilene Public Library (Main Library, 202 Cedar St.) starting Wednesday. Feb. 10. Led by IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP, sessions will be hosted four times at week through the end of tax season. As a reminder, as the Mockingbird Branch is temporarily closed, all sessions will be hosted at the Main Library Wednesdays through Fridays from 10AM to 3PM, Saturdays from 10AM to 1PM (as we close early on weekends).
If participating, guests are helped on a first-come, first-served bases (no reservations) and guests will be required to wear face masks while practicing social distancing as best as possible. Additionally, for those participating in the program, be sure to bring with you the following materials to help expedite your session:
- 2019 Tax Return
- 2020 W-2's and all other tax information
- Social Security cards of everyone listed on your return
- Driver's License or Photo ID
- Blank Check (or know your banking account and routing numbers if expecting a return)
Although staff is available to assist patrons, we are unable to help you e-File your taxes as we are not tax professionals. So be sure to take advantage of this special Free Tax Assistance program. It's hugely successful and again will be offered Wednesdays through Fridays from 10AM to 3PM, Saturdays from 10AM to 1PM at your Main Library, running February 10 - April 16.
