The City of Abilene will issue a mock tornado warning through CodeRED® (free telephone emergency notification system) at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
Staff at your Abilene Public Library will be reviewing our own best practices in what to do when a tornado hits, and the city is advising that all local businesses, schools, and residents do the same. If you don't already have a plan in place, this would be the best time to create one.
For city emergencies, by they real or drills, CodeRED® Weather Warning is the perfect free service to sign-up with through the city. To get started, visit the city's website at www.abilenetx.gov or use your smartphone to text ABITAYTX to 99411, standard texting fees on your phone plan applies.
So if you happen to be at your your Abilene Public Library when the drill strikes, we ask that you follow the directions of library staff, whom will direct you to a safe place. Once the drill is over, you may then resume your regular activities. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience, but it's an important safety drill for us to keep on top of.
