On 06 May 2021, at approximately 05:04 AM., the Abilene Fire Department units responded to a residential structure fire located in the 1600 block of Peach Street, Abilene Texas. The first in crews arrived to find a single family dwelling with fire and smoke showing. Crews made a fast attack quickly extinguishing the fire which caused damage to the bedroom and attic space. One male victim was located inside the structure and pronounced deceased by Taylor County Justice of the peace Mike McAuliffe. No other injuries or deaths were reported. The victim’s name is not known, further information is pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. The victim’s remains were transported to Tarrant County Examiners office for autopsy. The fire remains under investigation estimated value of damage is $10,000.
Update 5/12/21:
The investigation for the structure fire that occurred on May 6th, 2021 in the 1600 block of Peach is ongoing. The identity of the fire victim is pending the return of DNA evidence, and will be released after the notification of next of kin. Fire cause is still under investigation. The Abilene Fire Department and the Abilene Police Department are working in conjunction with one another, and will release any relevant information as it is determined.
Update 5/14/21:
Late today, May 14, 2021 the Abilene Fire and Police Departments were notified the fire victim from the May 6, 2021 fire at 1617 Peach Street has been positively identified. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has concluded, the remains located within the structure were that of Chicarus Vickers, 30 of Abilene. Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Vickers. Fire and Police Investigators continue to work through evidence collected from the fire. Mr. Vickers’ cause of death and the cause of fire will not be released at this time. Both agencies will release information as the evidence is substantiated.
