  8. Family Flix: "The BFG"

    Kids and parents are invited to join your South Branch Library for a great mid-morning movie. This time we’re watching 2016’s “The BFG,” based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl and starring Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill. In this film, an orphan little girl befriends a benevolent giant who takes her to Giant Country, where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world. This film is rated PG for action/peril, some scary moments, and brief rude humor, and has a run time of 1 hour and 57 minutes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with the movie.

  9. ABCD's of Medicare

    If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialists Jennifer Walter & Breanna Maichel. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need.   10. Saturday Matinee: "The Martian"

    Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2015’s “The Martian,” based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir, and starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and Kristen Wiig. In this film, an astronaut becomes stranded on Mars after his team assumes him dead, and must rely on his ingenuity to find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. This film is rated PG-13 for some strong language, injury images, and brief nudity, and has a run time of 2 hours and 24 minutes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with the movie.
