    If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialist Jennifer Walter. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need.     Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2020’s “Monster Hunter” starring Milla Jovovich and Ron Perlman. In this action flick, when Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to a new world, they engage in a desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers. This film is based on a popular game by Capcom. It’s also rated PG-13 for sequences of creature action and violence throughout, and has a run time of 1 hour and 43 minutes.   4. Read to a Dog Day

    If you have a child that loves dogs then we’ve got the program for you! Join your library for an interactive literacy event featuring registered therapy dogs with the Tail Waggin’ Tutors. A host of four-legged friends will be visiting the library in the afternoon and they’ll be waiting for kids to sign-up to read to them. It’s a great way to practice your reading to an audience that certainly won’t mind if you make a mistake or two. Everyone who wants a chance to read will be able to do so and we’ll have a selection of books for you to choose from. Come ready to meet our furry listeners, but we do ask that you leave your own dogs at home.

  13. Harry Potter Craft & Movie: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2"

    Join your Main Library for a summer of Harry Potter fun during the Summer Reading Club. Each week we’ll be watching an installment of the series, making a craft to go along with the featured film, and having fun with this popular movie franchise. At this session we’ll be watching 2011’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” In the final installment, Harry, Ron, and Hermione search for Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord as the final battle rages on at Hogwarts. This film is rated PG-13 for some sequences of intense action, violence, and frightening images, and has a run time of 2 hours and 10 minutes. Feel free to bring in your own snacks and drinks, and be sure to come out and have some Harry Potter fun with us every week!

  14. Pet Care 101: Dogs & Cats

    Come out to your Mockingbird Branch for another Pet Care session where staff from our local Abilene Animal Shelter will come out for a visit and talk to us about the ins and outs of pet care.
