  3. ABCD's of Medicare

    If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialists Jennifer Walter & Breanna Maichel. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need.   4. Saturday Matinee: "The Martian"

    Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2015’s “The Martian,” based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir, and starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and Kristen Wiig. In this film, an astronaut becomes stranded on Mars after his team assumes him dead, and must rely on his ingenuity to find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. This film is rated PG-13 for some strong language, injury images, and brief nudity, and has a run time of 2 hours and 24 minutes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with the movie.

    Join us for an afternoon of gaming fun! Designed for both new and experienced players, gamers from their tweens to adults are welcome to be a part of this weekly meetup where we gather to play the Pokemon Card Game. Pokemon has something for everyone, so come out, bring your cards, and be ready to battle it out at your library. Instruction will also be available for those interested in learning how to play, and once you do, you’ll be challenging everyone else in no time.

  6. Library Chess Meet-Up

    If you’re into chess, we invite you to meetup at your Main Library on Monday evenings for our weekly meetup. We’ll supply chess boards for up to 20 players at a time, and if you’re new to the game and need some help with the basics, someone will be on staff to help you learn. Come challenge others in some friendly competition. All skill levels are welcome so come try out a gaming session for yourself.
