  1. Free Tax Help

    e-File your taxes for free with IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP. Four sessions will be hosted each week at your Main Library, running Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Face masks will be required for all who wish to participate and social distancing will be observed. Volunteers will register guests for available slots on a first-come, first-served basis, no registrations allowed. Be sure to bring all your tax materials, W-2’s, driver’s license or Photo ID, Social Security cards of everyone listed on your return, and a blank check (or know your banking information) if receiving a refund.   2. Family Flix: "The House With a Clock in its Walls"

    Kids and parents are invited to join your South Branch Library for a great mid-morning movie. This time we’re watching 2018’s “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” based on the book by John Bellairs and starring Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Owen Vaccaro. In this film, a young orphan named Lewis Barnavelt aids his magical uncle in locating a clock with the power to bring about the end of the world. This film is rated PG for thematic elements including sorcery, some action, scary images, rude humor and language, and has a run time of 1 hour and 45 minutes.     If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialists Jennifer Walter & Breanna Maichel. Each session will provide seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare.     Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2008’s “Jumper,” based on the novel by Steven Gould and starring Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jamie Bell. In this film, a teen with teleportation abilities suddenly finds himself in the middle of an ancient war between those like him and their sworn annihilators. This film is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action violence, some language, and brief sexuality, and has a run time of 1 hour and 28 minutes.
