Kids and parents are invited to join your South Branch Library for a great mid-morning movie. This time we’re watching 2014’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” loosely based on the children’s book by Judith Viorst and starring Steve Carrell, Jennifer Garner, and Ed Oxenbould. In this film, Alexander’s day begins with gum stuck in his hair,followed by more calamities. However, he finds little sympathy from his family and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him, his mom, dad, brother, and sister - who all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. This film is rated PG for rude humor including some reckless behavior and language, and has a run time of 1 hour and 21 minutes. If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialists Jennifer Walter & Breanna Maichel. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need. Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 1995’s “Mortal Kombat” starring Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou, and Linden Ashby in one of the earliest live-action adaptations of the hit video game. In this film, three unknowing martial artists are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world. This film is rated PG-13 for non-stop martial arts action and some violence, and has a run time of 1 hour and 41 minutes.
